ABOUT ME
Hi there! I’m Michayla, a radio and digital journalist passionate about reporting on everything from the climate crisis, to health, education, human services and how policy impacts our communities. I’ve been Connecticut Public Radio’s state government reporter since January 2024, and have worked for the organization since 2022.
My radio career began a decade ago in the days (and late nights) on-air as a host during my undergraduate days at Ithaca College's FM radio station, WICB. I've worked professionally in audio journalism since graduating in 2017, producing everything from spots, to two-ways, features, live broadcasts, debates and talk shows at various audio news outlets.
After years in the field, and leading a community radio news team through the pandemic shutdown, I decided to seek a formal journalism degree. I obtained my masters’ degree in science & audio reporting at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at the City University of New York (CUNY). In that time I continued reporting part-time, on policy in NY & CT for Public News Service, then joined Connecticut Public as an intern for their talk shows. That summer, I interned for the newsroom and have been working there as a reporter ever since.
When I’m not on assignment I’m most likely outside with my “super-mutt” rescue dog, Elphie in our New Haven neighborhood, or at the pottery studio.
